#FEESMUSTFALL

#FEESMUSTFALL STUDENT MOVEMENT

The #feesmustfall was a student protest movement that aimed at bringing awareness of increasing of fees in the South African universities, it was a movement that started in mid October 2015, by University of Witwatersrand SRC, that protest went on to other universities that joined in to the movement as, universities of Cape town and Rhodes Universities

As seen when the movement began, a lot of students took to social media to voice out the opinions in regard with the feesmustall movement, many supported the movement as they felt that it was indeed a tie to change, that the education system should be on their side, as many were struggling to pay their fees, the social media played a very big role in making awareness as well as recruiting masses of people to take part in this historic role, statistics even show just how much and how successful it was when people did indeed take part in different platform of social media

If it were not for social media, this movement would not have gained much publicity as it has, even our local celebrities took part in supporting the protest, some of them also experienced hardships going through University and having to raise money to pay the fees, that to them became a validation that indeed they had to render their support and follow this movement

As successful as the protest were, there we still challenges regarding the student protest, the police became part of it and things would take a different turn, there were a lot of students who were hurt by the police shootings and throwing teargas at them, most of them were arrested and had to be released on bail, the challenge became too much as now it was becoming a war zone, instead of a peaceful movement it was suppose to be, even the student movement leader Mcebo Dlamini was arrested for students even taking their movement further and ending up vandalizing buildings

The use of social media is very important, how students used this platform to gain attention and publicity was in a positive way, many would use this platform in a negative way that it would have sent out the wrong message to the public, and portrayed the movement in a negative way, it is of grate importance that the safety use of different platforms of social media be used in a way that would be beneficial or send a massage that will impact others, look at how the social media attracted people from all works of life, that in the end this movement became a success, and what the students were fighting for brought a consensus regarding the feesmustfall movement.

    1. we should be a unity and support one another instead of attacking, because i feel that people from the outside are more privileged than us, that is why not all will understand why we had to fight, and because we did, now change has been implemented and we will get educated and still see others that are coming walking in the same path
